Description
Interview with Francesca Distefano (Gender and Policy Expert, FAO) and Rosa Rolle (Agro-food industries and food loss and waste reduction Team Leader, FAO).
The first expert presents her views first about how change can happen in gender inequalities, which are important all the food system. For change to happen in a relatively short time, the engagement of all the food system’s actors and beyond is needed.
Although there is no “one fit all” solutions, she describes a few fundamental elements that should be part of any “gender for nutrition” intervention. Evidences and experiences exist, but a lot still needs to be done in order to build better functioning, inclusive and healthier food systems to achieve food and nutrition security for all.
Rosa Rolle (Agro-food industries and food loss and waste reduction Team Leader, FAO) tackles the food loss and waste issues : reducing Food Loss and Waste can strengthen food systems and benefit society as a whole through improving food security and nutrition; reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering the pressure on land and water resources; and increasing productivity and economic growth.
