On the basis of the 2005 Millenium Ecosystem Assessment, Denis Couvet defines the main categories of ecosystem services: support services, supply services, control services and cultural services. He shows that the evolutions of those services differ, with especially a clear degradation of the control service. On this basis, he talks about the arbitration between those ecosystem services.
